I am most interested in information visualization and data mining/harvesting. My work involves the use of multiple coordinated visualizations to facilitate information discovery while iteratively evolving the user's information need. Specifically, my research focuses on applying these concepts to understanding document relationships within digital libraries. I currently harvest and provide visualizations for academic documents from the computer science digital library
CiteSeer. Visualizing document citation semantics allow researchers to understand the relationships between academic topics and communities as well as understand documents of particular importance within these communities.
I have also worked extensively on the
combinFormation project
I developed a typed interactive metadata system inside
combinFormation.
I also developed an interface for a system called Woezo that allows international students to quickly and easily browse the social and cultural experiences of other international students to help share these experiences and help reduce culture shock.
