further experience data gathering
Using the functional prototype you constructed in the last deliverable (or a revised version, depending on the feedback you got from me), gather data about how users experience your device/application. This round of evaluation should include both formative and summative components. Develop hypotheses about the benefits of the user experience, and a study that will seek to establish them.
Use the full range of techniques we've been studying all semester to develop a user study.
- Develop tasks that participants will perform. In designing the tasks, consider the user experience and what you will try to show with the study. These should, in most cases, be connected with scenarios.
- Develop conditions / dependent variables that you will vary while the tasks are being performed.
- Develop data gathering methods, such as structured and unstructured interviews, questionnaires, think aloud, interaction logging, and creative products. Use a combination of likert scales and open questions in your questionnaire.
- Develop quantitative metrics (independent variables) that you will measure about users performance of the tasks.
- Develop qualitative data through transcription and "coding".
As always, make sure to respect the privacy of your participants when
you record and report on the data.
As you conduct your analysis, make the relationships between the data
and your hypotheses very clear. Make a 2-4 page report (once again using
ACM CHI publications format)
which presents the data,
the analysis, the lessons learned that are your research contribution,
as well as the implications for your next round of development.
Assume
that I have your proposal in hand, and dont need a review of the basics of what your project is about.
